Background
Community building is a thread that runs through my entire career, having previously nurtured and expanded a global Multi-Cloud Engineering community of 20,000+ members at DoiT across international hubs.
One of my favorite community building activities was founding and building the Apache Flink TLV Meetup community.
Building the Apache Flink TLV Meetup Community
BigData Boutique is a consultancy focused on Apache Flink, Kafka, and Spark โ technologies that attract some of the most technically sophisticated engineers in the data ecosystem.
As Director of Marketing at BigData Boutique (via Marketing by Maya), I partnered with the CEO to found the Apache Flink TLV Meetup from scratch in 2024, building a highly technical and still-active community of over 650 engineers. I owned the end-to-end execution of six sold-out events attracting 200โ250 attendees each. This strategic initiative established deep brand credibility within a niche data ecosystem, successfully generating qualified consulting leads and even secured a securing a new partner marketing relationship with Confluent.
The Events
I handled every detail of each event end to end, including speaker sourcing and preparation, run-of-show scripts, venue logistics, catering, promotion, and post-event follow-up. I recruited high-profile speakers from the Apache Flink ecosystem to anchor each event and drive registrations. Every single event sold out โ remarkable numbers for a niche technical meetup.

Business Impact
1. Credibility that no ad budget can buy
Six sold-out events with 200โ250 engineers in the room positioned BigData Boutique as the go-to authority in the Apache Flink ecosystem in Israel โ organically, through genuine community value rather than paid promotion.
2. Leads and a strategic partnership
The meetup generated qualified leads and opened the door to a new partnership with Confluent โ proving that an engineer-first community, built with the right speakers and real value, converts directly into business outcomes.
3. A living, growing community
With 650+ members and six events under its belt, the Apache Flink TLV Meetup is still active โ a community asset that continues to generate value for BigData Boutique long after each individual event ends.
